The Sentinel-6 satellite, part of the European Commission’s Copernicus program, is planned to be launched into space with a Space X Falcon-9 rocket on the 21st of November. This satellite has been created with the aim of guaranteeing the continuity of ocean altimetry measurements until 2030, which are being acquired since 1992, and also of increasing their accuracy. The satellite is the result of a collaboration between the European Space Agency (ESA), the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), the European Commission, NASA-JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) and the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Organization). The data provided by the Sentinel-6 satellite will have many applications in the short and long term to understand the changes our planet is undergoing and its effects.
Since 2010, isardSAT has been working on the design, development and implementation of the altimeter processor. First, it started by designing the prototype and then has also developed the operational processor, which will allow satellite data to reach scientists so that they can extract the sea level estimate. and other oceanographic and climatic parameters. isardSAT will also take care of its maintenance for optimal operation beyond the end of the satellite life.
